Arizona Legislative Internship Program (ALIP)

The U of A Office of Government & Community Relations oversees the Arizona Legislative Internship Program (ALIP). This highly competitive internship program is a partnership between the University of Arizona and the State of Arizona that invites students from each of Arizona’s universities to participate in a paid internship with either the Arizona State Legislature, Office of the Governor, Legislative Broadcast Network and Arizona Supreme court and will work under the direction of Legislative staff.

Internship Duties:

  • Conduct research, draft bill summaries, present prospective legislation, monitor bills of importance, communicate with elected officials and, complete other tasks as assigned under the supervision of legislative executive staff.

Internship Available:

  • January 4, 2027 – May 7, 2027

Purpose of Internship:

  • In this role, student interns will focus on supporting the creation and implementation of public policy while meeting academic obligations of the University of Arizona.
  • No experience is necessary. Legislative staff will provide coaching and directions.

Qualifications:

(must meet the following provisions by the end of the fall semester before the start of the internship)

  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • At least 75 units of academic credit/grad student credit requirements
  • Eligible to work legally in the United States
  • Enrolled full-time at the University of Arizona
  • Have approval from your academic advisor
  • Ability to complete internship in person (This is full time in Phoenix, Az at the Arizona State Capitol)
  • Incoming Junior or Senior

Additional Information:

  • Application due: September 18, 2026, by 5 pm
  • Students will receive a $6000 stipend and may be eligible for up to $1000 in moving reimbursement.
  • Students will be awarded 12 units of undergraduate credit for their participation or 9 units of graduate credit
  • Grad students do not receive tuition waver
  • Online students, please check with your advisor
  • Students will be measured and graded upon a pass/fail system
